JIMMY CLIFF WINS GRAMMY® FOR BEST REGGAE ALBUM
THE KCRW SESSION OUT APRIL 2, 2013
FEBRUARY 11, 2013 - Los Angeles, CA – Hall of Famer, Jimmy Cliff has won his second Grammy® in the category of Best Reggae Album for REBIRTH. Other artists in the category were The Original Wailers, Sean Paul, Toots and The Maytalls, and Sly & Robbie & The Jam Masters.
Named as one of Rolling Stone’s top albums of 2012, Universal Music Enterprises released REBIRTH, the new studio album from Grammy® Award-winning musician, actor, singer, songwriter and producer Jimmy Cliff, on July 17, 2012 where it debuted at No. 1, remained for 5 weeks straight and continues to be a top 3 record on the Reggae chart.
REBIRTH once again pairs the reggae superstar and Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer with the award-winning producer and punk legend Tim Armstrong, who produced the thirteen-track album. Armstrong also produced Cliff’s Sacred Fire EP which was released late in 2011, and Rolling Stone magazine hailed the music as Cliff’s “best music in decades.”
Additionally, Jimmy Cliff will release THE KCRW SESSION on April 2, 2013. Featuring cuts from his Grammy® Award-winning album REBIRTH, as well as classic songs from his catalog, KCRW SESSION will include songs “Trapped,” his cover of The Clash “Guns Of Brixton,” World Upside Down,” “Wonderful World,” “Beautiful People,” “You Can Get It If You “Really Want,” “Children’s Bread,” “Many Rivers To Cross,” “I Can See Clearly Now,” and “One More.”
This session was recorded and broadcast live at famed Los Angeles public radio station KCRW for their signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic, hosted by Jason Bentley, on June 28, 2012. All songs were performed by Jimmy Cliff on guitar and vocal.
Recently, Jimmy Cliff was in Volkswagen’s Super Bowl ad “Sunny Side” singing a new cover of the Partridge Family’s theme song, “C’mon, Get Happy.” The ad features well-known YouTube “celebs” singing along with Jimmy Cliff and learning how to “Get Happy”.
